The Sweetwater Meltdown hails from Chicago, IL, with good intentions indeed. Our purpose is clear: to provide a comfortable environment in which open minds and personalities can experience live music at it's most genuine state. Our members have played with the likes of Tom Constanten, Rusted Root, Mickey Hart, Vince Welnick & Melvin Seals. Together we draw upon our own experiences and offer our take on lyrical songwriting combined with an enthusiasm for improvisational passages. Mary Flowe has sung ever since she left the womb, began playing violin a few years after and picked up guitar later in life. Her music has a soft and mellow feel with folk influences most commonly considered to belong in a coffeehouse setting. Listen closely to the pluckings of her guitar and you may be able to recognize the folk , s and celtic influences; a tribute to her childhood home in the south and to her family's Irish heritage. Most of all just listen to the pleasant melodies, the simple lyrics of hope, despair, longing and fantasy... And enjoy.
áthas (irish for joy and gladness) is a traditional irish band based in milwaukee, wi. the instrumental trio features the talents of heather lewin-tiarks, amy richter and jeff ksiazek. playing mostly dance tunes, both original and traditional on fiddle, guitar and bodhrán (as well as viola, flute, whistles, concertina, djembe, and spoons), áthas strives to keep the tradition alive. to help spread the joy through their music, they often welcome guest artists to play, sing or dance along.
áthas has played at Irish venues such as lacrosse irish fest, milwaukee irish fest, and the irish cultural & heritage center, as well as frequently playing for set, ceili, and feis dancers all around the midwest. the members of áthas are avid session players and currently run some milwaukee area sessions. heather and amy were the midwest fleadh champions on viola and bodhrán, and also competed in the fleadh cheoil na heireann in letterkenny, co. donegal, ireland last fall. heather was the recent recipient of the ed ward music scholarship through milwaukee irish fest. in march áthas was featured in mke. they also landed radio spots on both lake effect and uwm today on wuwm radio. they just released their debut album, athas, in august of .
