In The Know - Seattle, Washington
In the Know was formed in by veteran record executive and guitarist Kent Kiefer to fill the need for a highly polished cover band with the musicianship required to play the greatest rock & roll songs ever written by “A” level bands such as Led Zeppelin, Queen, Heart, The Eagles and other staple FM radio hits by top tier bands. The challenge was to find musicians who not only had the “chops” diversity and the vocal abilities to authentically pull off covering the songs we all know and love, but additionally to have the onstage charisma to treat audiences to a realistic performance with all the trappings of a first rate rock and roll stage show. Searching for the right vocal talent was a tall order to fill. The first call went out to Julie Mains, an amazingly beautiful and talented lead vocalist with the vocal power and stage presence to front a rock group that will deliver performances so over the top you’ll think your dreaming. At the same time in order to fill the need for that fat bottom end which every good rock band needs the call went out to monster bassist Albritton McClain. A true rock legend and charismatic performer as well as an astounding rock vocalist in his own right (just look at his bio below). The only thing that remained was a drummer who could keep the infamous rock and roll backbeat in check and look good doing it. At the time the band was being assembled Kiefer ran into legendary Rock and Roll drummer Anthony Guess at a gig and the band was complete. After a string of rehearsals In the Know is now ready to deliver the goods and is accepting bookings from high level corporate clients, night clubs, wedding parties and casinos as well as private events. Musicians Bios: Albritton McClain: Albritton McClain is no stranger to danger. During his career he has co-written top hits as well as playing bass on top major label hits and billboard charting hits. During his tenure he has filled venues night after night delivering high energy performances hotter than a six alarm fire. With a bio too long to mention he has been an ongoing member of the Donnie Iris Band and co-wrote some of their hits such as “Love Is Like a Rock” and performed on major label singles including the landmark “Ah Leah” with its searing bass line and signature stacked vocals which made the group an international success and still enjoys rotational airplay on classic rock radio almost thirty years after it’s creation. In addition he has performed with Trent Reznor (Of Nine Inch Nails Fame) Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and many other notable performers, scored movie soundtracks and performed solo with his band Albritton McClain and the Bridge of Souls. He has written a catalog of over three hundred original songs and today resides in the Pacific Northwest and continues to perform, write, and is a prolific session musician. Julie Mains: Julie is a classically trained vocalist with an amazing range and stage persona which has enabled her to perform with members of Yes, John Lennon, Queen, Paul Rodgers and Journey to name a few. She has a diverse background in musical theatre giving her the training and skill to deliver performances which are guaranteed to thrill any audience. Julie also performs with Spike and the Impalers and has done numerous appearances on television and to packed venues around the Pacific Northwest. Kevin Anthony Guess: Known to his friends as “Kevtone” he is one of the most intuitive rock drummers to hit the stage. Most notably Anthony made an indelible mark in rock history when he handled the drumming for Camper Van Beethoven’s first albums which are considered to be highly respected and influential records among musicians and rock critics alike. Anthony then went on to record on a project created by legendary producer Sandy Pearlman with the group New World Entertainment War. He has also worked with numerous other projects both live and in studio sessions which have made his skills at the drum throne continue to be in high demand. Kent Kiefer has been a professional musician, music publisher, Producer and Mastering Engineer for over twenty five years. With hundreds of album credits he has worked on records for artists as diverse as John Lee Hooker to the London Symphony. A native Californian hailing from Napa Valley, Kent cut his teeth studying with Legendary producer and recording engineer Fred Catero in San Francisco who recorded such classics as Black magic Woman (Santana) Piece of My Heart (Janis Joplin) and numerous other important records. All that being said Kent is best known for his work as a Record Label CEO and music innovator when his company Emusic became the first to sell music through the internet as well as introducing the world’s first mp player and numerous other innovations in the electronic distribution of music. He as been a prolific speaker around the world on the subject of copyrights and digital distribution of music and has also owned record stores and radio stations. His first love however has always been slinging a Les Paul onstage and producing records. Kent retired from active business after his company was sold to Universal and these days he can be found around Seattle doing session work, live performance and producing records.
