South, as the old cliche goes, finds it's strength in it's diversity. Presently based in Kankakee, Illinois, Their story began in the small town of Clifton, Illinois on the fringe of the Chicago southlands. A group of friends active in various music programs began replacing their traditional concert instruments with used guitars and beat-up drum sets and jammed whenever they could in garages, barns and empty rehearsal rooms of the modest Central High School. By January , , after a number of differing arrangements, South officially formed. The band borrowed it's name from Otto Road in Kankakee County where four of the five original members resided. Currently, the band is composed of Lee Dean (lead guitar, vocals), Ryan Leggott (bass, vocals), Garth Johnson (drums), Greg Peerbolte (rhythm guitar, vocals), Robert "Da Vinci" Gates (keys, aux. perc., vocals), and Donny Elumbaugh (Live sound, recording engineer, webmaster).
Dean is a natural musician, fluent in guitar, bass, drums, keys and virtually any other instrument he picks up. He has been playing self-taught guitar for several years. Previously, he was active in gospel and jazz bands. Leggott has been playing playing bass guitar for well over a decade and was original member of the acclaimed band Key Lo G (previously Mystery Machine). He is extremely influenced by funk music and is a crowd favorite on stage. Johnson has been playing drums for virtually all his life. He has been involved in countless bands in almost every genre, including the notorious Rat Bastard Band of Kankakee. Peerbolte has been playing guitar for upwards of seven years. He is an intense and heated performer with lavish stage presence. His influences include the dynamic classic rock of the 's and 's. Gates, who moonlights as a nationally ranked tennis player, is truly deserving of his nickname. He has composed numerous pieces of music, ranging in style from hip-hop and blues to R&B and instrumental jazz. He is influenced by aspects of all genres of music. Elumbaugh, the literal and figurative " th man" of South's appearance and success on the web.
South is a seasoned act that has played across Chicagoland and throughout Central Illinois. The band has successfully participated in concerts, private venues, battle of the bands, and has fans ranging in age from to . Kristianna Dykes and Chelley Seibert make up the band Frozen Feet. The captivating sound of Frozen Feet happens when Kristi’s acoustic guitar playing, powerful voice and heart felt lyrics are combined with Chelley’s remarkable harmony arrangements and commanding percussion style. Performing as a duo or with guest musicians, these girls rock!! and are “power packed” with great entertainment for all audiences. Very reminiscent of Indigo Girls vocal style with the impeccable harmonies and acoustic guitars but, the lyrics are more spiritual and heartfelt similar to Edie Brickell and The Judds
Backed by her talented band ‘the boys’, a Whitney Mann show is can’t miss. Every song is sung and strummed with a type of intensity only found under florescent lights (‘damn near blinding’). With her cool blend of alt-country and folk, Whitney Mann’s rockin’ jams are as sweet as her ballads: wide-eyed, intense, seductive. Her songs ache like her broken heart. They will ache like yours when she’s through. Veiled beneath her whiskey-tinged voice and stream-lined lyrics exist the lives of farmhands, wayward criminals, sluts. Concealed beneath them are the stories of her life. And beneath them even further; beneath the pound of the bass drum and the slide of the guitar, beneath the walking bass line and the echo of reverberating claps, exists Whitney Mann’s philosophy on life. If you listen closely you can hear it.
String Theory is an acoustic duo that performs throughout Michigan and Northern Indiana. They play acoustic jam music and use a combination of improvisation and guest musicians to deliver a performance that is always fresh and exciting! The String Theory duo is a great option for quieter events and venues. They work well in restaurants and corporate receptions parties and picnics. They still have a lot of good energy and will entertain a varied guest list.
Super String Theory is the String Theory duo plus an awesome drummer and electric lead guitar. They are a great band for larger venues when your want your guests up moving on the dance floor.
Vocally-oriented "adult rock" group that has played over 150 shows per year - every year - since 1995 on a circuit from Northern Michigan to Nashville.
