Better Than Work - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
"Better Than Work" is a Pittsburgh based orginal band that began when saxophonist Jake Werkmeister and guitarist/singer/songwriter Mike Plutt decided to put a band together during the winter of . Through a mutual friend they met fluatist/composer Gabe Antkowski, who originally auditioned to play the bass. Jake then went to search for a drummer. After auditioning drummers throughout the city, some of whom sent tapes in from out of state, Jake found Jeff Martin. Jeff's jazz/rock style and love for Mitch Mitchell and John Bonham was exactly what the newly formed band was looking for. So the quartet practiced together for several months, and songs were being written, but something seemed to be missing. Gabe and Jake would take turns playing bass while the other played their respective woodwind. Then almost by accident, the two began to trade riffs and work with harmonized horn parts. BINGO!!! The sax/flute duet created the unique texture that the band was looking for. Now, there was just one problem. Who was going to play bass? Andy Dzura who was an old friend/drummer of Jake's would quickly solve the problem. He introduced the band to the funky bassline stylings of Ryan Suley, who instantly fit the band like a glove. Now the band is getting ready to record their first SELF PRODUCED ALBUM. They have already begun to play gigs and are working along with several other bands to create a new music scene in Pittsburgh that will no doubt turn some heads. We'll be sure to keep you up to date. But for right now it's all about... Bad Pay, No Roadies, and No Groupies, but it's still BETTER THAN WORK!!!

Asphalt Juke - painesville, Ohio
Asphalt Juke tends to blend a lot of styles of music into one general sound, writing songs in the style of some of their biggest influences as Pearl Jam, Live, Faith No More, Black Sabbath, Life of Agony and Helmet, but adding their own personal touches to these styles and not limiting themselves to just the standard. With Dave as the principal singer, and Bob singing lead on - other songs, they offer a variety of vocal styles, that is recieved well by their fans. Their songs all tend to be written about something that either they or someone they know has experienced, ranging from parental abandonment to losing one of the most important people in your life to a family member coming out of the closet and drug abuse. The band likes to write serious songs, but have fun with their live shows, as to get across to their fans that even though terrible things may happen to you, it's never the end and there is always a brighter side of life. They accomplish this by featuring partial covers of songs that a band like them generally wouldn't do, such as Miss New Booty, Gold Digger, and occasionally Deric's drums and vocals only version of Afternoon Delight. By respecting the bands that have come before them, yet not being afraid to go their own direction, and completely opening up emotionally and spiritually, they have created a deep personal connection with their fans, influencing people to think outside the box, be themselves and never to settle for just the minimum or standard.
