Jim is also a SAG/AFTRA actor who has appeared in three episodes of "LAW & ORDER:SVU", most notably playing a featured jury member on the episode "STRAIN"(original airdate Oct. , ; has aired several times on NBC and USA network--SEE EPISODE "Strain" AGAIN MARCH , at PM E.S.T. on USA NETWORK).Jim has also appeared in 'HITCH' with Will Smith; been on episodes of 'HACK' on CBS and a 'SEX & THE CITY' episode on HBO(third to the last show, final th season); he's starred in many stage musicals as well, playing Jesus in 'JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR' and many other roles. He is available for private parties whether corporate or residential and year-round wedding receptions(including ceremony music--he played Church Organ for years and did numerous wedding ceremonies). He can does primarily solo work on piano and vocals or with his double keyboard setup and acoustic guitar (sounds like a full band since drums and bass are programmed in keyboards). Pittsburgh based outfit, The Metropolitans, are a -piece Swing Pop band with a sharp sound reminiscent of the bustling, cool nights in the skyscraping city. Their sound is carefully drawn from elements of soulful rock, standard jazz and swing. Featuring a -part horn section to compliment the driving melodies of the original songs, The Metropolitans offer a truly extraordinary sound that is unrivaled on the local music stage. At the forefront of their on-stage entourage stands a feminine voice resounding with modern and impassioned nostalgia – a voice that is upheld by the constant and complicated movement of the rhythm section. The Metropolitans possess the spirit of a lost era fused with the contemporary sound of the fast-paced culture in which we all live.
A Brief History
The Metropolitans was formed in September after a conversation held between two friends. One of them, Seth Dubin, an experienced songwriter, guitarist and bandleader of projects such as Artificial Lingo, Cazart and Brown Derby Junction, presented the idea of starting a modern swing band. The other, Rocco Pacella, a trumpet player, offered his musical ability and support to the idea. The two high-fived immediately, and thusly, The Metropolitans were formed and the search began for talented musicians.
Auditions were held until the band found tenor saxophonist Jonny Franks and alto saxophonist Jason Munley, both of whom possessed significant experience as jazz-based musicians. The two complimented Rocco’s prominent tone and Seth’s original melodies, creating powerful harmonies and setting the band’s unique sound.
James Kurasch, a previous band mate of Seth’s, was an obvious choice to play bass, and accepted the project without hesitation. His skill and knowledge of music added to the already accomplished experience of the band’s members. Drummer John Cafaro joined the band as the most recent addition, bringing completion and his own explosive style of playing to the rhythm section.
The right voice was hard to find. Eventually, after many rounds of auditions, Elise Smithmyer was asked to join. Elise was a natural talent, and immediately filled the void with a sultry voice and confident demeanor.
The Metropolitans are without a doubt the unrivaled culmination of varying backgrounds, techniques and personalities. Sound, spirit and style come together to create this distinctive and crowd-pleasing Swing Pop outfit.
I’m a conga player based in the Downingtown, PA area with over years behind the skins. Just wanted to introduce myself and explore the possibility you may have need for a percussionist at some point or know of a group that may. I have pro gear ( LP congas, a big djembe, bongos, scrapers and shakers, etc.), my own mics and cables, and reliable transport. I have a reliable, on-time. professional work ethic and have played the suburban circuit for a few years in a variety of bands and groups. I’m willing to be a walk-in percussionist for a gig and am open to a permanent relationship. I will dress appropriate to the event (I have a tux for wedding/corporate/ private gigs) and play all genres including covers as well as Latin and Afro styles, world/ethnic, blues, alt. soul, funk, etc and can improv/accompany just about anything that comes up. minute mp demo “montage” available.

Single Musician using Backing Tracks created by myself in my own studio. I play guitar and sing over them. I use mini-discs to lay down all the tracks. My material is from Santana to Sinatra. I do all vocals & parts with my Roland GR- Synth. Vocals and blues are part of my offering.
