BILISTIC: No Hype Necessary—Just The Facts
The Facts: this provocative Wichita- based rapper has opened for almost every hip-hop heavyweight to blow through his corner of the Midwest—Nelly, Bone Thugs & Harmony, Cypress Hill, Ja R list goes on. Aside from having sold over , copies of his self- released albums, his music has been embraced by program directors over a -state radius. (Radio friendly tracks like “Why Do We Cry?” and “Stop Playin’ ” were each KISS . FM’s “most requested song” for over eight consecutive weeks.) He’s performed on both of DJ Legacy’s Heatwave mixtapes and hooked up with Legacy for the mtvU Spring Break Celebration— among the other headliners: Lil Wayne, Three Six Mafia and Juelz Santana. He also joined underground heavy hitter Bukshot on his “They Still Don’t Love Me” LP, which features the likes of Bubba Sparxxx, Haystak and Gangsta Black. And no—he’s not “another Eminem”, but he does respect the dude’s talent.
Triple Play was born in the small city of San Benito, TX on August 7th, 1978. San Benito is located in the Rio Grande Valley on the most southern tip of Texas. Growing up in a single family home he is the second of three siblings with a brother eleven months older than him and a sister seven years younger. With his mother working and going to school he was raised primarily by his grandmother. Triple Play was always fascinated by music and dreamed of one day producing his own music. However he was sidetracked by the perils of the community in which he grew up. Surrounded by an abundance of drug users and drug dealers he learned very quickly about life on the streets, and with a city becoming infested by street gangs his life took a turn for the worse. Becoming involved in gang life and getting into trouble with the law he was sent to live with his mother in Dallas, TX in 1993. His life continued on this downward spiral, dropping out of high school and hustling on the streets until the birth of his daughter in 1996.
After the birth of his daughter he changed his life, began working various low paying jobs, started taking college courses majoring in business and started focusing on what it was he wanted to do. In 1999 his baby boy was born, and with a wife and two beautiful children he started in motion his plan for success. He had decided that he wanted to one day own his own business, and wanted to be involved in music. In 2002 he started to learn about the music business, reading as many books as he could on how it worked, how artists got paid, contracts, basically learning the ins and outs of the business. During this same time period he began to harness his production skills and patiently tweaked and improved his productions. Finally in December of 2005 he formed what is now known as Notorious Cartel Records and with the first half of his plan complete we can only wait and see what the second phase of his blueprint will bring us.
After many years of performing as a solo act, Mikey Needleman recruited two more musicians to converge for one purpose: to bring Mikey Needleman music alive in a way that fans have never experienced before.
The Mikey Needleman Band was formed in the Summer of 2006 and quickly gained much recognition and praise from critics. The band is made up of Mikey Needleman on Guitar and Lead Vocals, Bill Hurrelbrink on Bass
and Brent Owens on Drums.
Mikey and Brent had been working for many years together, but nothing came of their colaborations until recently.
Bill And Mikey had shared stages many times in the past in different projects so the addition was a natural one.
All of the members have been very active in different aspects of music all of their lives, so the chemistry between all three members yields ecclectic ideas and sounds. With open minds, The Mikey Needleman Band approaches music in a
way that many other succesful bands approach music; anxiously persuing a connection between the music and the fans.
The Mikey Needleman Band plays covers, requests AND originals!
From June 1st, of 2006 Six to June 1st of 2007, Mikey Needleman has been booked over 130 times!
