| World Beat travels from West Africa to the Czech Republic to the United States, meeting in Boston, MA for an eclectic blend of exotic rhythms and powerful percussion jams that will set your feet and spirit dancing! Weaving together diverse musical traditions with the powerful rhythms of West Africa, the unique and high energy music of MAMADOU sets feet and spirits dancing. The band performs original music based on authentic African rhythms and arrangements, composed by Mamadou Diop of Dakar, Sénégal, who takes these fundamental African rhythms and layers them throughout his music.
At the heart of MAMADOU's music is the drum. Powerful are the rhythms of Sénégal, making a connection with the soul of each listener. Each musician is given command of separate, offset rhythms, making this music among the most danceable around. Sung in Wolof (Mamadou Diop's native language), French, and English, the songs speak of the importance of love, friendship, and spirit; all in a manner that transcends language and cultural barriers. | Old School New Orleans meets New School Funk and burns down the House.
It's all about the groove.
It's always been about the groove. You know it, and you can believe this band knows it. Trick Bag specializes in the music of New Orleans, especially that of modern funk artists such as the Meters & Neville Brothers, pumping out grooves hatched in the roadhouses and house parties of south Louisiana. But more than a cover band, Trick Bag puts their own stamp on every groove-infested number they play. And how could they not? This band is made up of four very seasoned players, bringing decades of experience in hard working bands to this party. These guys have something to say, and say it they do, grooving hard on New Orleans styles cooked-up hot & nasty and served their way.
Trick Bag is composed of four core players: guitar, piano & hammond organ, bass, and drums. Two of the players are also lead vocalists. Between them they’ve done stints with a good many successful bands, including the Boston Horns, Physics Of Meaning, Mamadou Diop, Soul Inspiration, the Swanky Moes, Chubby Checker and Frankie Avalon, Vital Functions, and a good many others.
In addition to the core band, more players can be added to the band for special performances, including saxophone and a percussionist.
The Trick Bag repertoire focuses on music of the Meters, Neville Brothers, other staples of the New Orleans groove, and a peppering of like-minded originals. The band‘s sets are built up from a mix of barrel house vocal numbers and searing instrumentals, all rolled up in a feel-good package of party energy and drum-tight, butt-shakin’ grooves.
